What If the Universe Is Not Delivering as Promised?

Hubble Space Photo with Emerson quote

So, Ralph Waldo Emerson shared this nearly two centuries ago:

Once you make a decision, the Universe conspires to make it happen.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

And yet, millions of affirmations, self-help books, and the best of intentions later, most of us have experienced countless examples of the Universe NOT delivering. Here is how I use the The Three You’s framework to get a “behind the scenes” look at what may be happening.

If Kid you is making the requests, all bets are off. The kid is stuck in the past, (1) with a very limited worldview of what is possible and (2) without the power to execute your end of the equation to bring dreams into reality.

Now, Kid You and Adult You may both want the same thing – that happens. But they may want it for different reasons and they may well stir up different energy to get there. Let’s say Kid You has a plan to get to Chicago. She sets her goal and won’t take no for an answer. Even if the brakes are worn, even if there is a snow storm already developing, even if her travel companion has bowed out.

Can you imagine the Universe providing support for that road trip? Of course, the Universe well might – I am not privy to all that transpires between you and the Universe! But if it doesn’t, it might be looking out for you, thinking, “Hmmm. A kid is in the driver’s seat and I am not liking the looks of this.”

On the other hand, if Adult you has an overpowering urge to get to Chicago, has fully taken stock of the pros and cons, and gets in the car fully conscious of: “Yep there are a lot of things with flags at the moment but I can handle it if I get stranded and/or have a wreck on the icy highway. I am willing to take the risk for the larger goal which is very clear to Adult me” then the Universe may well hop in the passenger seat and say “OK! Let’s buckle up and go!”

It is NOT about whether to go to Chicago or not. It is about the energy and the intention you bring to your decisions. It is not about whether the Universe is delivering or not – the Universe is always delivering. It may just be that your Adult self does not know the whole plan yet, and/or Kid You is proceeding ahead blindly without the ability to look at the bigger picture. Or the Universe has an “better” plan and it’s not quite ready yet! Adults can learn to live with this level of uncertainty, confident that things are indeed moving in your direction. Kids cannot, so they throw up panic flares and that slows down achieving your results.

I generally try things about 2-3 times. If doors don’t start opening, then I put that wish on the back burner. I give it time to percolate. Maybe the things supporting me are not fully cooked yet. I don’t know. And it doesn’t matter that I don’t know. My job is to keep doing things that vibe me up, so my consciousness is open and available to receiving the incoming messages from my Soul. That is not the same as being persistently pushed by the Kid to hurry up and make things happen, constantly trying to bend straight things around corners, and it is most definitely not about living with a steady state of anxiety that is an echo chamber of “You can’t! You must!”

Adult You can safely assume that the Universe is for you 100%, because it is. If you are not manifesting what you want, scan for Kid energy and keep following your bliss, which exists independently of what you are manifesting. It’s what my friend Grace Piper reminded me is called, pronoia. I love that!

  1. It’s always good to give things time & wait for them to develop in the right timing. 🙂

  2. The way things unfold can be quite magical sometimes. If you head in one direction and find that it’s not quite happening, another door opens that you might not have expected which ends up being even better than expected. Just need to go with the flow and not resist and remember that the energy you put out is usually what you get back. Nice blog posting, Roxanne!

It’s like we’re giving the universe conflicting messages: Yes, I want it! No, I don’t! And the universe is just waiting for us to figure it out…
