It’s not that often that I am willing to go public with such a direct statement, but I really do have the opinion that human social and psychological development is supported by crying.
Life is frustrating. We constantly face limits of numerous varieties! And the body is a grand storehouse for all of the emotional angst that accompanies having the code not work, the bank account being empty, getting stood up, having Shrub as the president…and so forth.
So vent already! But vent consciously please. You’ll get more bang for the bawl! Just complaining and yelling screaming – or stuffing into stoic silence – well, it may feel good in the moment but it does not do any lasting good.
Crying – conscious crying – is a great tool for moving us collectively and individually forward.
Tears have corticosteroids – the body’s stress chemicals. When you cry, you cleanse your body of stress!
When you cry consciously, you take power away from our core misguided thought: things should be different than they are. Things are. Shit happens. We have far less control and far more power than we realize.
So if you’re feeling cranky, unplug for a few mins, have a good bawl, and realize that none of this matters!
